Northern Kentucky University

Welcome to Northern Kentucky University, a growing metropolitan university of more than 15,000 students served by more than 2,000 faculty and staff on a thriving suburban campus near Cincinnati.

Located in the quiet suburb of Highland Heights, Ky. - just seven miles southeast of Cincinnati - we have become a leader in Greater Cincinnati and Kentucky by providing a private school education for a fraction of the cost. While we are one of the fastest growing universities in Kentucky, our professors still know our students' names.

Campus Growth

In 2008, we opened our $37 million, 144,000-square-foot student union building, as well as The Bank of Kentucky Center, a $60 million, 9,400-seat arena for basketball games and other events.

It is the best time to be a part of NKU.

In sports, we win on a national level. The NKU Norse are an NCAA Division II university in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and field teams in baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, soccer, cross country, tennis, golf and volleyball. Six out of the last ten years we have claimed our conference's all sports crown - which means overall, we have the most talented teams. The women's basketball team captured their second NCAA national title in 2008.

Not only are we attracting talented students and faculty, but we're also recruiting a distinguished set of lecturers. Speakers to NKU in recent years have included politician Bob Dole, political strategist James Carville, journalist Bob Woodward and President George W. Bush.

But no matter how many new buildings we raise or how many championships we win, nothing is more important than our main objective: Graduating talented students who will become the leaders of tomorrow.

It's a great time to be at NKU - Why NKU? We're earning national attention for academic excellence, community involvement, and instilling leadership skills in our students.

We continue to boast small class sizes averaging only 24 students.

Our commitment to student/faculty interaction gives NKU the look and feel of a private university - all for the most affordable tuition in Greater Cincinnati. We know money matters and are committed to setting you up for a lifetime of success without a lifetime of debt.

Affordability, personal attention to students, and lively classroom discussions are just a few of the many reasons students choose Northern Kentucky University.

Our Location

Northern Kentucky University is easy to find - our name says it all.

We're a growing campus nestled in the hills of a safe and quiet suburb in Northern Kentucky with all the attributes of a larger college town. Grocery stores, restaurants, banks and post offices are conveniently within walking distance for students, and hospitals with urgent care facilities and emergency services are nearby. The campus is accessible from four major highways and just 20 minutes away from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. We're located seven miles south of downtown Cincinnati and less than two hours away from Lexington and Louisville.

There's always plenty of activity going on around campus - whether it's students playing Frisbee on the grass or having lunch in the outdoor amphitheatre. It's an environment where students are encouraged to express themselves, holding demonstrations or decorating community benches with fraternity colors and insignias. The entire campus is wireless, too, so students have the option of writing (or avoiding writing) papers in a campus coffee shop or outside by the lake.

Just a short drive away, you can find the bright lights of Cincinnati, which offers everything from high culture to a variety of bars and nightclubs. At Newport on the Levee, 10 minutes from campus, you can take in a movie, buy a new outfit, try five different kinds of ethnic cuisine, play some skeeball and round out the evening with a nightcap, all under one roof. In other parts of the county and across the river, you'll find state parks, lakes, bike trails, amusement parks and theatres.
