Tracker Products, originally founded in 1996 as a computer hardware and networking company, entered the world of tracking software when the Cincinnati suburb of Independence, Kentucky contracted us to research the software tracking market, purchase and implement a software solution that would be used to manage all of its data collection, evidence chain-of-custody and reporting in general. The department needed to track every piece of evidence more efficiently, from the initial log-in to the conclusion of the case.
The job sounded simple enough, but after searching the market, we were a bit surprised. Choices were limited, prices were high and systems were antiquated. We were confident we could develop a system that would do it much better.
We began by designing our system to be browser-based, making it easily accessible. Everyone has experience with internet browsers - and that makes it easier to learn and use than software products that have to be downloaded and installed. Not only that, but licensing would be less restrictive (users can access the system from any computer with an internet connection) and updates to the system would be much more manageable (often completed remotely by the Tracker Products support team).
