The department for CBS determines the eligibility for the Kentucky Temporary Assistance Program (KTAP), Food Stamp Program and Medical Assistance Program.

The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The DCBS is under the umbrella of the Cabinet for Health and Family services. Before DCBS can determine eligibility for any of the programs, a person should be interviewed by a caseworker in the county in which they reside.

Listed below is a brief description of the programs DCBS administers- If you have specific questions, you should contact the staff at the local office.

The Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP) which has taken the place of the old Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program provides temporary money payments to families who meet certain requirements. Under welfare reform, families are now eligible for only 60 months of lifetime benefits under the KTAP program. Within 24 months of receiving benefits, adult household members must be employed or participating in a work program.

Medical assistance programs are available to help pay certain medical expenses of pregnant women or families with dependent children. Various other medical assistance programs exist and specific questions would need to be addressed by the Grant County office.
