Intake and Investigations assess and evaluate all allegations of child abuse, neglect and dependency, which are deemed to meet with the agencyis acceptance criteria. All documentation and information collected dur¬ing the investigation is used to complete a thorough family assessment. The purpose of the family assessment is to determine any high-risk situations the family may deal with, as well as the overall risk to the child in the home environment.
The social workers involved in Intake / Investigations are also responsible for filing petitions / complaints through the Ccunty Attorney's office for District Court intervention when families anre unable or unwilling to protect a child. If a child is deemed to be in imminent danger through the assessment of the family, the social worker may seek to file for an Emergency Custody Order with the court in order to secure a safe environment for the child. This safe environment can be a relative placement or a placement with a state-approved foster family or emergency shelter facility.
